A journey beyond tradition.
TAILOR-MADE CRAFTSMANSHIP
At Sagarminaga Atelier, we are passionate about telling stories, those of natural fibers that are expressed and transformed through our hands.
We are fascinated by its qualities and its contrasts, its lightness, its intensity and its ductility. We are seduced by their meanings and their ability to convey sensations, to talk about culture and traditions, and to create links between past and present, between people and their environments.
We believe in timeless pieces and in lived spaces that are entangled and involved with the languages and emotions of each of the people who participate in them. We like balance and volume, gaps, quality and rhythm, raw and aesthetic. The geometry, the inclination and the overlap. The adventure.
We design and produce each piece by hand in our workshop in Bilbao.
We design and produce each piece by hand in our Bilbao workshop from vegetable fibers and natural cordage. We work with fibers such as esparto, pith and rattan, and woods such as chestnut. Many hours of study, work and dedication accompany each of the objects we produce.
All our pieces recover fragments of our traditions and our culture, passed through a filter of contemporaneity. Part of our job is to investigate the possibilities of materials and different production techniques. To create our pieces, we combine millennial braiding techniques typical of Europe and Japan with new digital numerical cutting technologies.
All the materials we use are of vegetable origins.
All the materials we use are of natural and vegetable origin such as esparto, linen, cattail, wicker, wood, cordage or pith. To manufacture the different types of pieces, we use two types of fiber: rigid, such as rattan or pith, which are used to give strength, and semi-rigid, such as esparto, which are what give each piece an appearance. particular. Depending on the needs of each piece, we intervene the fiber by applying color or we use different types of braiding, modulating or stitching.
We work with noble, biodegradable, renewable materials of natural origin.
We only work with noble, biodegradable and renewable materials from plants that grow in abundance and regenerate quickly.
All the raw materials that we use locally with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions, promoting the local economy and ensuring greater control over the quality of the materials and the ethical conditions of extraction and handling.
We make the most of the materials, we take special care not to generate waste.
